Raksha Bandhan What is Raksha Bandhan? Literally it means a bond of protection.
Who needs protection? In reality all living beings need protection from various malicious possibilities in order to live a life happily or peacefully !
This Raksha Bandhan is celebrated in India as a bond of love between brothers and sisters where a brother is considered the protector of the sister. This follows the patriarchal concept and idea that the sister being weak and vulnerable relies on the protection of the brother who is strong and dominant. Some people celebrate this as a mark of their culture and tradition.
For some it is just one of the regularly conducted Hindu festivals while some may even find it devoid of any meaning or sense whatsoever!
I don't think I need to give an account of the current state of affairs in the human society who hold such lofty ideals about the qualities of the male as the protection provider of the female! Truth has painted this idea with colours of humour and disgrace!
Can we besmear it again with a little modification? Why just brothers and sisters? All living creatures who are harmless deserve protection in life! It is better to remove the tag of any specific relationship to acknowledge and regard a bond of love, safety, and protection . No male, female priority, neither andocentric, nor gynocentric!
Simply a bond of protection for all by all. This bond will encircle the whole world with love and happiness! May God bless the whole world 🌎 today with love and protection 🙏 ❤️
